Supporting Sustainable Employee Recognition

Environmental Sustainability Efforts

At HW Holdsworth, our commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in our day-to-day operations and product packaging practices. We have made several impactful changes in our supply chain that contribute to reducing plastic waste, optimising resource use, and improving our packaging sustainability:

Plastic to Paper Transition

In an effort to reduce plastic usage, we have replaced plastic packaging with paper alternatives wherever possible. This includes transitioning from plastic sleeves for picture frames to paper sleeves, swapping plastic packaging for paper presentation boxes, and replacing flocked plastic jewellery pouches with paper pouches. These changes, implemented across thousands of products each month, significantly reduce our plastic consumption annually.

Renewable Energy through Solar Panels

In line with our commitment to sustainability, we have taken a major step to ensure our operations are powered by renewable energy. By installing solar panels, we have transitioned our energy supply chain to rely on clean, renewable energy sources. This initiative has not only helped reduce our carbon footprint but also reflects our dedication to powering our business in an environmentally responsible manner.

Biodegradable and Eco-friendly Packing Materials

We prioritise environmentally-friendly packaging solutions. Our company now uses biodegradable bubble wrap and hexagon paper padding, which can be recycled and reused, whenever possible. Additionally, we’ve replaced harmful styrofoam with compostable packing pellets, reducing landfill waste and ensuring a more sustainable end-of-life for our packaging.

Composting

We actively compost our office's food and green waste, turning organic scraps into nutrient-rich soil rather than sending them to landfill. By composting, we significantly reduce methane emissions, a major contributor to climate change. This sustainable practice not only minimises waste but also enriches the environment, supporting a circular economy where resources are reused and regenerated.

Recycled Shipping Cartons and Materials

Approximately 50-75% of our shipping cartons are made from recycled materials, and half of our packing materials also come from recycled sources. With 12,000 parcels shipped annually, this practice leads to a significant reduction in the demand for virgin resources and contributes to circular economy practices.

Social Responsibility and Ethical Sourcing

At HW Holdsworth, we are equally committed to upholding social responsibility and ensuring the ethical sourcing of materials that support the well-being of communities and workers throughout our supply chain:

Ethical Precious Metal Sourcing

Our precious metal supplier uses recycled silver, gold, and other precious metals, which helps reduce the environmental and social impacts associated with traditional mining practices. This practice not only helps to minimise environmental degradation but also supports circular economy principles.

Lab-Grown Diamonds

In our pursuit of responsible sourcing, we have chosen to work with suppliers who provide lab-grown diamonds. These diamonds are an eco-friendly alternative to mined diamonds, offering a more sustainable and ethical option that minimises the environmental impact of traditional diamond mining.

Supporting Australian Businesses

Our key suppliers are Australian-owned and operated businesses, including skilled timber frame makers, established in 1975 in Hawkesbury, NSW, who bring decades of craftsmanship to their work. Additionally, we partner with badge makers whose history dates back to the early 1900s, reflecting a legacy of quality and dedication. By supporting these Australian businesses, we not only uphold high standards of craftsmanship but also contribute to our economy, ensuring that skills and industries continue to thrive.
